Why Buy Glamping Tents From Star Tents
Star Tents has manufactured tents in South Africa since 1991. Our luxury glamping tents are designed for hospitality businesses that need durable, certified, and customisable accommodation structures. Every unit ships with full engineering certification, fire-rated roofing, and a 2-year warranty.
Ten Tech Engineering and Structural Certified
Every glamping tent we manufacture is supplied with a Ten Tech Engineering and Structural Certificate. This certification confirms the steel frame and structural assembly meet South African engineering compliance requirements, which lodges and resorts need for insurance, building approval, and guest safety.
34 Years of South African Tent Manufacturing
We have manufactured tents in South Africa since 1991. Over 34 years, we have refined materials, frame design, and installation methods specifically for South African weather, terrain, and hospitality use cases.
Fire-Rated to Three International Standards
Stretch tent roofs on all our glamping units are certified to French M2 (NF P92-503), US CFM (Title 19), and British BS 7837:1996 fire safety standards. Certificates are available on request.
"Hospitality clients buying glamping tents make one decision wrong more than any other: they choose canvas-only structures and then deal with damp, rot, and replacement costs within three years. A 90% shade cloth overlay above a stretch tent roof, on a hot-dip galvanised steel frame, is the only combination that survives South African UV, rainfall, and coastal wind over a 10-year lodge life."
– Alick Ross, Founder of Star Tents
Glamping Tent Applications in South Africa
Our luxury glamping tents are used across multiple hospitality and private use cases nationwide.
Eco-Lodges and Safari Camps
Designed for lodges and camps that need durable, low-impact accommodation structures with a luxury finish. The modular system allows units to be installed on minimal foundations, which reduces site disturbance and earthworks costs.
Boutique Resorts and Wine Estate Accommodation
Luxury tents work well as add-on accommodation for wine estates, country resorts, and existing hospitality properties that want to expand room inventory without building permanent rooms. The 2-year warranty and engineering certification support insurance and rating board approval.
Private Retreats and Off-Grid Builds
Private buyers use our glamping tents for off-grid weekend properties, family farm accommodation, and remote retreat builds. The modular design suits remote sites with limited construction access.
Pop-Up and Mobile Glamping Operations
Operators running mobile glamping experiences (event-based, seasonal, or touring) can specify the steel frame as fully collapsible, which makes the unit transportable between sites.
Installation, Foundations, and Site Requirements
Star Tents glamping units can be installed on three foundation types: wooden decks, brick or concrete foundations, or directly on prepared natural ground with a PVC floor. Frames secure with coach bolts on timber and epoxy anchors on concrete. The modular construction means setup typically requires a small crew rather than a full construction team, and the installation guide ships with every unit.
For permanent or semi-permanent installation, we recommend a hot-dip galvanised and powder-coated frame for full corrosion resistance, particularly in coastal or high-rainfall regions.
Used and Second-Hand Glamping Tents
Second-hand glamping tents become available from time to time, either from ex-lodge stock or trade-in inventory. Buying used glamping tents in South Africa carries risks worth checking before purchase: current fire certification on the roof fabric (which expires), frame galvanising and corrosion condition, canvas wall integrity, and the working life remaining on UV-exposed components.
New Star Tents glamping units include current certification, structural certificate, and 2-year warranty cover. Contact us to check what used stock is currently available.
Nationwide Delivery and Setup Support
We deliver glamping tents across South Africa from our Cape Town facility, including remote lodge and farm sites. Setup guidance is provided with every order. Standard production turnaround is 15 to 18 working days from deposit, with lead times extending for large multi-unit orders, custom colours, and peak season production.

Star Tents blend the finest features of luxury camping tents with our signature elegant stretch tents, crafting a unique and luxurious camping experience.
low environmental footprint
These tents can be set up virtually anywhere with a low environmental footprint. They can be installed on wooden decks or, for more permanent setups, on simple brick foundations.
modular design
Thanks to our modular design and straightforward installation guide, setting up these units is hassle-free, requiring minimal effort and manpower.
Every luxury tent can be tailored to meet individual preferences. Internal partitions can be added or removed, high-heat-resistant fireplace fittings can be installed, and windows and doors can be customized to meet specific requirements.
STRETCH TENT ROOF
Our stretch tent roofs comply to all global fire safety standards, including French M2, CFM and British certifications. Our roofs are not only durable but also provide a unique and elegant look that will make your guests feel extra special.
These tents also come with a Ten Tech Engineering and Structural certificate for that extra piece of mind.
Custom-tailored and fitted to a steel frame, the tent roof can be made from either premium flex-coated or 3-ply fabrics, all UV stabilized to withstand severe weather.
SHADE CLOTH 2nd roof
Each luxury tent features a 90% shade cloth roof overlay, protecting the Bedouin Tent from UV damage and significantly extending its lifespan. The shade net is tailored to fit just above the Bedouin stretch tent roof, aiding in temperature regulation.
Available in various colors to match their surroundings, the nets are reinforced with a 3-ply or Mae flex patch at the center pole positions to prevent abrasion between the layers.
Made from high-density polyethylene (HDPE) monofilament and tape, all shade nets are UV stabilized to endure harsh weather conditions.
Ripstop Canvas Side Walls and Doors
The canvas side walls, made from high-quality ripstop fabric, are highly durable and weather-resistant. This fabric includes fire retardant, antimicrobial, and UV color-locking properties for long-lasting performance.
Available in various colors, the side walls can be individually removed and easily replaced if damaged. The windows have three layers: a weatherproof ripstop drop-down layer, a durable mosquito mesh screen, and a clear PVC window, all fitted with heavy-duty YKK zips and sliders.
The doors are similarly constructed with three layers: a weatherproof ripstop door, a durable mesh screen, and a clear PVC window.
Hot-Dip Galvanised Steel Frame
The steel frame is designed for easy assembly, with straightforward instructions provided.
Constructed from 50mm x 50mm x 3mm mild steel, the frame can be made collapsible or in predetermined bays, and can be hot dip galvanized and powder coated as needed.
The frame uses a simple lock nut and bolt system for quick assembly, and is secured to the understructure with coach bolts for wood surfaces or epoxy anchors for concrete surfaces.
Easy slide Kadar rails facilitate quick installation of side walls, allowing individual walls to be replaced without removing the entire tent.
OPTIONAL EXTRAS
Each Star Tents glamping unit can be specified with additional components to suit the climate, ground conditions, and guest experience.
WOOD OR ALUMINUM DOORS
Custom wood or aluminium doors can be pre-fitted into the steel bays. Doors are built to specific sizes, use double-glazed safety glass, and ship with high-grade locking and latching mechanisms.
FIREPLACE FLANGE
A high-heat-resistant fireplace flange can be fitted on request. Rated to withstand temperatures above 225 degrees Celsius and sized to accept chimney pipes between 150mm and 225mm in diameter. Suited to cooler climates and Highveld winter use.
Internal Partitions and Custom Layouts
Internal partitions can be added or removed to create bathrooms, sleeping areas, or lounge spaces within a single unit. Window and door positions can be specified at order. This makes the unit configurable as a single-suite, twin-suite, or family-suite glamping accommodation.
PVC FLOOR
Heavy-duty 550-micron PVC floors are available as an optional extra. Colour-matched to the tent and side walls. Recommended where the frame is installed over natural ground rather than a timber deck or concrete slab.
